Promising Practice: School-to-School Sharing header image

La Pine Middle and High Schoolhosted educators and administrators from South Lane and Brookings-Harbor School Districts in the first of a series of open houses designed to share promising practices across GEAR UP schools. Jim Boen and Matt Montgomery, principals of La Pine Middle and High School, respectively, organized a full day of observations and discussions around their student and teacher engagement efforts that have improved test scores, student participation and success, as well as created overall positive school climates.

The information shared included La Pine's efforts on engaged learning, academic intervention strategies, professional development, teacher observations and a host of other topics that were very well-received and deemed extremely pragmatic by all in attendance. "I found the day to be chock full of new and interesting ideas," said Jerry Lynch, a consultant with Education Partnerships, Inc. who helped initiate this new professional development program for GEAR UP schools.

The program will continue with the next visit to Cottage Grove in April. Many thanks to the team at La Pine Middle and High Schools as well as Anne Stephens for organizing the event!
