49 GEAR UP students spent a week at Oregon State University learning about marine science  - everything from engineering a tsunami-resistant structure to designing an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to identifying shrimp found in the Yaquina Bay estuary. They also experienced life on a college campus: staying in residence halls, using the recreation facilities, and eating in the dining halls. Students learned what it takes to be a successful college student - from time management to study skills to note-taking.

Many thanks to OSU Precollege Programs, Hatfield Marine Science Center, and the college student mentors! For more photos, see our Facebook page.
