The Newberry Eagle: La Pine Students Focusing on College, Careers header image

La Pine Middle School held their annual Career Day on March 6, 2013 to a packed house of 300 students and 35 business and community organizations.

The Newberry Eagle, a local newspaper serving Deschutes, Lake and Klamath counties, hosted a booth and covered the event on the front page of their March 15 edition.

Students responded to a survey about what they learned, what they liked, and what they decided about their future. A few of the responses reported are recorded (and shortened) here:

What I liked:

  • I liked the fact that the people were so nice. People told us interesting things.
  • We got to really think about our future.

What I learned:

  • I learned that I need to keep going on my goals.
  • I learned that jobs that don't seem very fun actually are fun.
  • Dream big! Never stop. Just because you live in a small town doesn't mean you can't go to college.

What I decided about my future:

  • Its going to rock!
  • I need to plan it wisely.
  • I will be going to college because it assures me a better future and better jobs.
  • I made a decision to save all my money for college.
