What/who was the biggest influence on your decision to go to college?
I always knew that I wanted to go to college and being in GEAR UP helped keep that in mind since the 7th grade. Above my desire there is also the want to make my family proud and make worth their struggle to give me a better life.
What is one of the best things about college?
One of the best things about college I'd say is the over all experience itself. You grow not only intellectually but also as a person. You discover more about yourself than you could imagine.
What was your most memorable GEAR UP moment?
My most memorable moment was the 'Keep Hope Alive' training camp that we attended for a week at Woodburn High School.
What are your future career plans?
My future plan after graduating from Western is to obtain my Masters degree in Counseling.
What advice do you have for students currently in middle and high school GEAR UP programs?
Never think you can't or are not smart enough to go to college. You might hear college isn't for everyone but everyone has dreams and everyone is capable of being knowledgable and able to grow and better themselves.
