Name: Carrie Davis
School: Yoncalla Middle/High School
Position: Business/Health teacher, GEAR UP Coordinator
College: Eastern Oregon University
Fun Fact: I used to be a medical office manager before I went back to school to become an educator.
Describe an aspect of your educational journey. I initially wanted to be a travel secretary.  In fact, I was all signed up to attend Northwest Business College in Portland and then found out the program had been discontinued.  So I quickly made a decision to attend The Esther Bryman School (because I had not taken the SAT) and became a medical office manager.  I realized I could only go so far in that profession, so I made the decision to attend Eastern Oregon University.  Karen Spaulding was my high school business teacher and I enjoyed her classes and thought it would be a good path to follow.  My parents were instrumental in encouraging me to go back to college.
The impact of GEAR UP: GEAR UP has made a difference by helping students realize it is very possible to go to college. By touring different college campuses and participating in such activities as FAFSA Night and College Application Week, students dream bigger.

FBLA and retirement

In addition to being a fantastic GEAR UP Coordinator for the last five years, Carrie is the adviser to the award-winning Future Business Leaders of America at Yoncalla High School. We appreciate her dedication to students and wish her well in retirement!
